Rhythm is a Dancer is a research project where the audience controls the BPM of the music by dance movements.
Usually it's the music or the DJ who controls the movements of the crowd. The feedback of the audience is more or less indirect by raving, cheering or just leaving the dance floor. So our question was "What if we switch this direction and allow beat control by dancing?" Our prototype is a smart scepter with sensors, detecting the movements of a dancer and calculating the bpm of these movements in realtime. These are sent via wifi and translated into a midi clock signal. This can be used in the DAW or hardware setup of your choice.
